Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Medical editing is a complex process of evaluation and preparation of a
scientific article to be ready-to-use as an evidence-base in medical practice and research.
Objectives: To uncover the editing process of the Iraqi Medical Journal and measuring
some of its parameters.
Methods: A review of the archived data of all manuscripts submitted to the Iraqi Medical
Journal from 1st of August 2009 till 1st of February 2014 was made. The publication period,
the rate of submission and rate of rejection were calculated. The type of papers and
causes of ejection were studies.
Results: The number of manuscripts studied was 186. The mean publication period was
4.5 ± 2.48 months. The mean submission rate was 3.4 ±2.42. Wrong structure and weak
language were the main two reasons for rejection.
Conclusion: The editing processing in the Iraqi Medical Journal needs more improvement
to encourage more submission and to improve the quality of papers submitted.
