The First Use of DNA Typing to Resolve an Intersex Case in Iraq
Abstract
ABSTRACT
In the real world, humans come in a staggering variety of biological conditions that range from the standard-issue XX=female and XY=male, through an extremely complex continuum of intersex states, all the way to the naturally sex-reversed XX-male and XYfemale. Increasingly, we humans exist in every state possible and viable between "normal" male and female and chromosomally sex-reversed male and female. Estimated incidence is about 1 in 30,000 male births and 1 in 100,000 female births for persons born with some atypical sex differentiation or intersex condition. Rarely, transsexualism is associated with genital ambiguity or genetic abnormality, it’s important to them to identify their sex and their various changes morphologically, hormonally and psychologically. Here we report the 1st case of intersex referred to the Medico-legal institute in Baghdad seeking to change a document of known registrant female who apparently looks male to be a male in official & legal registration diagnosed by DNA Profile including Amelogenin which was a newly test done to help in sex identification for the 1st time in Iraq in such cases
